W3C

(World Wide Web Consortium) The standards body of the Web. W3C defines and develops the protocols that ensure the universality of the Web, including HTML, HTTP, XML and many others. It is heavily involved in the development of web services standards, most notably SOAP and WSDL. A major project of the W3C is to use XML as the foundation for creating the Semantic Web.
